DU TOITSKLOOF | OUR TABLE. OUR WINE.
Iconic moments happen around tables and over the past few decades, Du Toitskloof has earned and enjoyed a profound place at South African tables.
When the founders of Du Toitskloof Wines dreamt of their young, innovative winery - they knew that the journey was as important as the destination. Du Toitskloof Wines was established by 6 wine farmers as a co-operative in 1962. The six visionaries bought the 18ha of land from founder member, Visser de Wet and accepted its first grapes in February 1963.
In the early years Du Toitskloof Wines became well known as a bulk-wine producer, yet after the winery began concentrating on the bottled wine market in the early 1990s, they soon cultivated a reputation as a progressive brand from the onset, not only in the innovative winemaking disciplines introduced at the cellar, but in its commitment to social development as a Fairtrade producer. The winery builds on three principles; they believe in always delivering a product of utmost quality, consistently, without compromising ethically.
QUEST | THE PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE
Vineyards have been shown to possess unique fingerprints in centuries gone by. Every block of vines expresses distinctive characteristics, and the finest winemakers know that viniculture starts in the soil. In 2010 our winemaker began travelling in search of the purest fruit from first growth appellations across the wine regions of the Western Cape. Every new vintage becomes a quest to find the different components to make up the perfect blend that meets the winemaker’s requirements.
The pursuit of excellence began in 2011 when Quest aspired to showcase a premium range of iconic French blends, styles and varieties grown and expressed in South African soils.
LAND’S END | SALT OF THE EARTH
Land’s End Wines, the first of its kind for the area, was established in 1996 by a group of like-minded friends and maverick wine-lovers who long saw the opportunity for Sauvignon grown along this raw, light-filled Cape Agulhas coast.
The wines coming out of the area made waves through the industry for their distinct varietal character, depth of flavour and unmistakable saltiness.
Today, Land’s End is produced by DTK Wines and consists of two tiers; both are bottlings of Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah, one is produced from grapes only sourced in the Elim and Agulhas area, while the other incorporates grapes from across the Cape South Coast, including Agulhas. The cool maritime climate coupled with the fierce winds imbues a unique sense of place in the wines.
PIERRE DUMONT | ARRIVÉ EN 1696
This wine range pays tribute to Pierre DuMont and his fellow pioneering French Huguenots, who greatly influenced the future of winemaking in South Africa. Pierre DuMont from Calais arrived in the Cape Colony as early as 1696.
DuMont first settled at De Paarl Diamant in the Drakenstein area, from where he moved to De Zoete Inval with his wife Cecilia d’Atis who is said to be one of the first female winemakers of South Africa. It is noted in historical documents that by the year 1712, Pierre and Cecilia were the proud owners of three horses, 100 cattle, 450 sheep and 13,000 vines.
